NAIMOS task force disrupts galamsey activities at Bonsu Cocoa Research Centre


The NAIMOS Taskforce resumed operations at the Eastern Region and raided an illegal mining site at Bunsu within the Section E Site 3 of the Cocoa Research Centre in the Fanteakwa South District on December 4.


The operation was carried out soon after a collaboratiive discussion between NAIMOS, Cocoa Protection Unit of COCOBOD and ConcernedCocoa Farmers Association of Ghana. The institutions have planned to collaborate to fight against illegal destruction of cocoa farms through illegal mining and other forms.


The illegal miners absconded upon sighting the vehicles of the NAIMOS Taskforce. The Taskforce were able to seize two excavators and one bulldozer left behind by the fleeing illegal miners.


In another development, on December 4 at about 1335 hrs, the NAIMOS Taskforce currently conducting anti-galamsey operations in the Eastern Region, raided some illegal mining sites at Nsutem in the Fanteakwa South District.


The Illegal miners were mining and discharging their waste water directly into the Birim River from the illegal mining sites. There was also mass destruction of lands within the area. The Illegal miners absconded upon siting vehicles of the NAIMOS Taskforce.


Two excavators which were being used to cause the pollution have since been seized by the Task Force.
